Create a Safe Space in your Community
Join the Green Bench OC Movement!
We're inviting cities, parks, schools, libraries, community centers, and other Orange County organizations to join the Green Bench OC movement. When you paint a bench lime green in your community, you are showing your support for mental health awareness and acceptance!

Want to help spread the word about the #GreenBenchOC movement?

Let’s Get Started
Ready to join the movement? Use this handy checklist to plan your Green Bench OC event:
- Obtain all necessary permissions to paint your organization's bench.
- Set a date and time for your painting event.
- Recruit volunteers to paint the bench.
- Source the materials you will need: a drop cloth, gloves, painter's tape, rollers and brushes, and paint in color code 7488C. You may also want to have sandpaper on hand to smooth any rough edges.
- Paint the bench and help end the stigma surrounding mental health!
- Notify us when you are ready to paint, and we will send you a sign to place next to the bench explaining the meaning and importance of the Green Bench OC campaign.
- Email
[email protected] gmail. com with any questions. When your bench is complete, send us the location and we will add it to our directory!
If you are painting on a smooth surface, you may want to lightly sand your bench with 180-grit sandpaper before painting. Clean off any dust before you start painting.
Metal, plastics, and wood require different types of paint. When you buy your paint at the hardware or paint store, the staff can assist you with choosing the right type.
Has your bench been painted before, or is it colored plastic? You will need a paint primer, which you can purchase with your paint.
Hang “wet paint signs” or cordon off the area until the paint is dry. You should allow at least 8 hours for the color to dry completely.
