What is Green Bench OC?
Green Bench OC is a movement to improve community understanding and acceptance of mental health and wellness in Orange County. By painting benches lime green across the county and beyond, community organizations reduce stigma and create safe spaces for mental health conversations.
The Green Bench concept was developed by Promise to Talk and the campaign provides support to organizations looking to paint a bench in their community. Though Green Bench OC originates in Orange County, we encourage all who are supporters of mental health initiatives to participate!
Why lime green?
The green ribbon is the international symbol for mental health awareness. Green Bench OC adopted lime green as its official campaign color since it is clearly visible in a variety of locations from parks, to schools, businesses and more!
Why benches?
Our benches serve as a reminder to pause, sit with a trusted friend or family member, and have a conversation about how you’re feeling. When we share our emotions and listen to one another empathetically we create safe spaces for those in our lives to discuss their mental health.
What is Promise to Talk?
Promise to Talk is a mental health stigma reduction initiative that is being implemented by the three Providence Orange County hospitals: Mission Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and St. Jude Medical Center.
As part of California’s Take Action for Mental Health movement, Promise to Talk promotes open and honest conversations to improve community understanding, acceptance and support of mental health and wellness in Orange County.
